The Metre
I am astounded by the pace of change within the metre. I can't keep up!
I recall the words of David Attenborough, from "The Private Life of Plants".
"Mid-Winter and the countryside is so still. It seems almost lifeless but these trees, bushes and grasses around me are living organisms and face the same sorts of problems, just like animals, if they are to survive ; they have to fight, compete for mates, invade new territories.
The reason of course that we are so seldom aware of these dramas is that plants live on a different time scale."
The Metre too of course abides by this other time scale. My interest as an artist lies in attempting to see what is normally unseen, to sensitize myself to its pace. Indeed the project title “Another Metre”, with reference to poetic metre, alludes to this very idea of engaging a different rhythm.
So, it seems that only 9 days later, I am beginning to step out differently.
Only nine days and already for this particular docken, "fall out" of flower parts is a thing of the past.
Having had cataract operations I have lost the natural ability to focus. I am therefore wholly reliant upon the of the auto focus feature of the camera and lens ( Nikon D 90/ AF-S Nikkor Lens 18 – 105mm) and equally upon my ability to use it precisely.
However, many of the images to date, to me appear a little “soft”. I shall have to borrow another’s eyes for confirmation!
